EBSA toolkit

1. Overview

This digital guidance sets out the emotional factors that can support attendance in education and how children and young people, their families and educational settings (e.g. schools and colleges) can address the risk and causative factors of emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).

Sections of the guidance can be shared electronically or printed out and shared with colleagues, parent carers, children and young people as appropriate.

The guidance and associated materials will be refined and added to over time, as research and practice in this area develops over time, both nationally and locally.

The toolkit encourages you to follow the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle to support individuals experiencing EBSA and develop and implement Whole School or College Approaches (WSCA) for prevention and early identification of Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing (MHEW) problems.
