Children’s Disability Service (CDS)

The Children’s Disability Service helps children with severe learning disabilities. We assess children up to age 16, and their families, for social care support.

We’ll do a family assessment if a child:

  • has a severe learning disability
  • is on level 4 of the Continuum of Need; and
  • other services are not appropriate or have not been effective

We normally decide within 24 hours if we’ll do an assessment.

What we offer

The Children’s Disability Service can offer:

  • information and advice
  • referrals to other agencies; or
  • a family assessment

If we identify a social care need which family networks or other professional networks cannot meet, we may develop a support plan. This will consider how to meet the need.

Refer to the Children's Disability Service

To access support, make a referral through the Single Point of Advice (SPoA).

The service is available:

Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5pm.

Friday 8.30am to 4.30 pm.
