Looked after children and children in care

5. Pupil Premium Grant (PPG)

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is extra funding from the Department for Education. Its purpose is to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. PPG is allocated for children of mandatory school age who have been looked after by the local authority for at least one day. The Virtual School headteacher manages this money.

PPG can be used to develop school staff skills and understanding for working with looked after children. It can also be used to provide support for individual children.

Requests to use the central Pupil Premium fund can be made through a Personal Education Plan (PEP) or by contacting the Virtual School.
