Pensions

All employees of East Sussex County Council, including school teachers and support staff, are automatically made members of either the Teachers’ Pension Scheme or Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). For more information on these schemes please follow the links below.

Auto-enrolment

We are required by law to enrol employees who meet certain criteria into a qualifying pension scheme.

We enrol employees on a 3-year cycle which started in March 2013 making our future re-enrolment dates March 2016, March 2019 and so on. Other employers, such as academies, will have their own auto-enrolment cycle.

On these re-enrolment dates, If you are an “eligible jobholder” you will be automatically entered into the relevant pension scheme. Similarly, if you become an “eligible jobholder” you may be entered into the scheme at the point you begin to meet the eligibility criteria. Details of the assessment criteria can be found in our document below:

Full details of the scheme benefits, along with the relevant forms for opting in and opting out, can be found on the relevant scheme’s website:

It is important to note that you have the right to join or leave the pension scheme at any time.
