Preparing for Ofsted

DfE Guidance on temporary changes: attendance recording for educational settings whilst closed due to the coronavirus

We have put together key information and resources for schools to help maintain provision during the COVID-19 situation.

Updated information added following attendance at a briefing. All new information is at the end of the document.

The document will continue to be updated with new information.

We are now working to a new Inspection Framework with a number of changes, including the notification process and contact pre-inspection.  At the LA led Ofsted briefing for primary schools in term 6 we offered to develop a writing frame to support preparation for the new 90 minute telephone conversation that will follow the notification of inspection call, with a particular focus on the educational focus of this call.

This document should be read, reviewed and completed alongside the Inspection Handbook.  The prompts are preceded by some guidance notes. The writing frame is aligned to the paragraphs in the Handbook.

Ofsted 2019 ‘Education Inspection Framework’ resources

Ofsted has published a range of helpful resources for schools on their new Education Inspection Framework, to explain what has changed and why. This includes:

  • Guidance for schools on how inspectors will be looking at the curriculum [PDF]
  • Video interviews with Ofsted staff on curriculum and the education inspection framework
