"We all encounter trying circumstances that test our limits from time to time. If we are able to recognise when we are becoming less regulated, we are able to do something about it to manage our feelings and get ourselves to a healthy place”
Leah Kuypers, Creator of the Zones of Regulation
Supporting emotional regulation in your setting
All feelings are a natural part of being human; sometimes we need to regulate them to navigate situations to get a desired outcome, and sometimes we don’t. There are a range of approaches used in East Sussex schools to support the development of the skills needed to manage regulation of emotions.
This document aims to demonstrate the common principles of each approach and show how they blend in practice.
Each of the approaches are designed to be implemented at a whole school level to provide a foundation for group and individual support if required.
The document has been created by professionals within the Education Division who work with schools on a daily basis to support them in the meeting of the needs of their children and young people.
All the contributors have been trained in their particular approach enabling them to convey their deep understanding.
