1. What is a Whole School Approach?
The Whole School Approach encompasses and mobilises the whole school to promote student and staff wellbeing and address mental health issues. This type of multi-component approach has been shown to be effective in promoting social and emotional wellbeing than those which focus on only one or two parts of school life.
In adopting this approach, schools can be confident that a focus on wellbeing and mental health supports them to provide healthy and happy school environments for pupils and staff alike. The whole school approach not only prepares children and young people with the tools they need to be the citizens of tomorrow with sound character and values, but also directly supports their more immediate mission: the promotion of effective learning.
The components of the Whole School approach in East Sussex are described in the next few pages.
