Recruiting and retaining skilled and committed governors is at the centre of an effective governing board. Governing boards should undertake a skills audit regularly to identify the skills they need from new governors. We recommend using the National Governor’s Association Skills Audit.

Applying to be a governor
We invite applications for governors directly through the East Sussex County Council website, we can then match applications with schools that have vacancies. This approach sits alongside the strategies taken by schools themselves to recruit from their local school and wider community.
